These rare crystals are called cortosis. Cortosis crystals are used for melee weapons to resist the attacks against lightsabers, also too it can absorb lethal blasters fire! The perfect example of a melee weapon is the common vibroblade. Speaking of lightsabers earlier, it is also used for the dynamic Jedi and Sith.
These crystals are very imperative for combat that ever do arise. I advise you all to equipped these things in your lightsabers if you ever run across them in your travels. They usually grow immensely in dark caves throughout the galaxy. It's best to search them in the crystal cave on Dantooine.
